WEST MILFORD, N.J. (Monday, Aug. 18, 2025) — The West Milford Fire Department responded to 23 calls for service over the past week, including three structure fires, a large bonfire in the woods and multiple standby assignments in Paterson during its water main crisis, officials said.

All of the department’s members are volunteers. Fire officials praised their teamwork in handling the heavy call volume.

Four firefighters were injured or suffered medical episodes during the week. Three were transported to local hospitals and later released the same day, according to the department. All are reported to be recovering.

The department also thanked its mutual aid partners and coordinators, MAC 1 and MAC 5, for supporting coverage during incidents.

The busy week came on the two-year anniversary of the death of Fire Commissioner Ed Steines. Department members said Steines’ service and dedication to the township continue to be remembered.
