FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025) — A truck struck low-hanging wires Tuesday, snapping one utility pole and fracturing another, trapping a person under live wires and shutting down Columbia Turnpike in both directions, officials said.
The Florham Park Fire Department responded to assist with removing the person from the wires. The incident brought down power and communication lines across all lanes of the roadway, rendering the major county route impassable.
JCP&L, Verizon, Optimum and other utility companies worked into the night to make repairs, which officials said would likely extend into the Wednesday morning commute.
Police officers were stationed at surrounding intersections to help alleviate traffic congestion. Officials advised motorists to allow extra travel time due to expected delays.
No serious injuries were reported
