AVENEL, N.J. (Monday, July 14, 2025) — Firefighters quickly extinguished a garage fire Monday morning on Highfield Road, preventing it from spreading beyond the structure, officials said.

The call came in around 10:26 a.m. Crews from Avenel, Woodbridge and Port Reading arrived to find smoke coming from the garage and roof area, with flames visible along the base exterior siding, according to the department.

An 1 3/4-inch preconnect line was stretched, and the fire was knocked down before it could extend past the garage. Woodbridge and Port Reading firefighters assisted with ventilation and opening up the structure.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Avenel Fire Prevention Bureau. No injuries were reported.
