Firefighters battled a four-alarm fire in a six-story multiple dwelling at Box 4929 on DeKalb Avenue in the Bronx. The incident occurred August 20, 2026, with fire extending from the top floor into the cockloft.

First-due companies encountered difficult concealed fire conditions, with blown-in insulation hampering thermal-imaging efforts. Two vehicles blocking hydrants also delayed establishment of water supplies.

The response grew to 74 FDNY units and approximately 231 fire and EMS personnel. Two civilians and two firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The fire was placed under control at approximately 10:40 a.m.
