Three-alarm fire burns through vacant Atlantic City school

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025) — Firefighters battled a massive three-alarm blaze for more than 15 hours Saturday at the vacant New Jersey Avenue School, which was slated for demolition, officials said.
The fire broke out in the unit block of North New Jersey Avenue and quickly spread through the unoccupied building. Crews from the Atlantic City Fire Department worked through the night alongside Atlantic City police, EMS and neighboring agencies to contain the flames.
The blaze was declared under control 15 hours after it began. No injuries were reported, according to city officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
