Firefighters quickly brought a house fire under control Wednesday morning after flames broke out in an occupied home on the 300 West block of Glenwood Avenue, officials said.
The first alarm was dispatched at 10:19 a.m. Chief 3, Daniel Troiano, arrived to find smoke showing from a one-story private dwelling. Squad Company 3 (D Platoon) made an aggressive interior attack while North Wildwood Ladder Company 2 searched the home, according to the department.
The occupant had escaped before fire crews arrived and was treated on scene by Wildwood Crest EMS for smoke inhalation. No other residents were inside, and no injuries to firefighters were reported.
The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes and declared under control shortly after. Crews remained on scene for about two hours conducting overhaul and investigation.
Assisting companies included Quint Company 3, Rescue Company 3, Tower 4 from Wildwood Crest, and Squad 72 from Rio Grande. Additional coverage was provided by Stone Harbor Fire Department, Anglesea Fire Company, and North Wildwood Volunteer Fire Company. Middle Township Ambulance Corps handled firefighter rehab.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office. The Wildwood Police Department assisted with traffic and crowd control.
