ASHWAY, R.I., Aug. 11, 2025 – Just after 5 p.m., the Ashaway Volunteer Fire Association, Ashaway Ambulance Association, and Hopkinton Police Department responded to a construction site where a male worker was trapped under a concrete slab.
Car 403 arrived first and reported that machinery on site had lifted the concrete off the patient. Life Star was requested but unavailable, and Boston MedFlight accepted the flight. Fire personnel used struts and cribbing to stabilize the 1,500-pound slab while EMS treated the patient.
The patient was quickly extricated and transported to Crandall's Field, where EMS personnel transferred him to Boston MedFlight. Fire crews maintained a safe landing zone throughout. Assistance was also provided by a paramedic from the Westerly Ambulance Corps, Inc., who supported Ashaway EMS with patient care.
Officials praised all responders for their coordinated efforts in safely and efficiently handling the rescue.
