Overheated Power Strip Causes Smoke Condition in Dwelling

Bellwood, PA - Excelsior Fire Department responded alongside mutual aid companies from Greenwood, Hookies, and Neptune for a reported dwelling fire after a homeowner reported flickering lights and smoke inside a room.


Units arrived on scene and conducted an investigation, locating the source as an overheated power strip that had ignited and melted. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, ventilated the residence, and ensured no extension or additional hazards were present.


Command reduced the assignment after conditions were brought under control, holding the incident to Excelsior units. The response serves as a reminder to use power strips safely and avoid overloading electrical devices.
