11:45 AM and it was already 92 degrees out when the alarm came in for a working structure fire on Rodgers Ave in the City of Lockport first on scene units found heavy flames blowing out the rear of the North and South side of the house and the rear porch area totally engulfed, with dark smoke already blowing out of the roof vents, Visible fire was starting along the roof line, a full stand by crew was called in, and a FAST Team out of Orleans County Medina Fire Department was also called to the scene. A rapid interior attack team geared up and planned to enter through the front keeping the fire to the rear. The truck operator made sure he had a full 5 inch supply line up and running before any one entered the building. Heavy smoke was reported in the attic and upper floors and visible fire in the rear lower floors. a lone fire fighter used a hand line to try and knock down the rear outside fire and the fire spreading along the roof line. An immediate rehab was set up under one of the only trees to keep the firefighters out of the direct sun. Neighbors brought over cold water to the blaze busters as they cooled off and changed air packs. Other teams rechecked areas finding smoldering wood and embers in the kitchen area asking for another line to knock it down. The upper attack team made sure the attic was completely watered down and any hidden hot spots were pulled down and washed down. Medina's FAST team set up directly by the rehab station to be able to respond to any firefighter emergency. Lockport Police assisted home owners away from the scene and the Red Cross was notified for shelter for three adults. The initial response units and stand by crews worked quickly and organized to hold the fire to the rear of the building saving most of the structure. The Training Officer had a full accountability system up and running right from the start making sure all firefighters were accounted for. The fire was called under control in about 90 minutes.
