Marine Incident Response Team Responds to reported Water Rescue in Mastic Beach

Mastic Beach N.Y. – On June 23rd at about 5:45 PM the Mastic Beach Fire Department was activated along with the Moriches inlet marine incident task force was activated for a reported water rescue. Suffolk Fire-com Advised Chief of Mastic Beach FD Luis Grego that they received reports of a Canoe or kayak in distress in the narrows bay .
Chief of department Grego, Mastic Beach Ambulance EMS Supervisor Richard Tvelia and Mastic Fire Dept Assistant Chief Rudy Sunderman responded to the end of Fairlawn Ct . while Fire personnel launched a jetski and other resources necessary to from Mastic Beach Marina 1. Suffolk Police Marine Mike (M) advised their dispatch that they had eyes on the kayaker and they were moving and not in distress. Marine Mike ensure the subjects made it back to shore safely after. Suffolk Police went back to Marina 1 briefly and spoke with Mastic Beach FD personnel. All apparatus and personnel were released in about an hour. No injuries were reported.
