On July 15th, members of Submarine Base Professional Firefighters IAFF Local F-219 responded aboard Engine 62 as mutual aid to a second-alarm residential fire on Colman Street in New London, CT.

New London firefighters were dispatched around 10:27 p.m. and encountered heavy fire involving the first and second floors and attic of a two-family residence. The fire also extended to the exterior of a neighboring home on Cutler Street.

Engine 62 initially operated as the FAST team, providing a rapid-intervention resource for firefighters working inside. The crew also placed ground ladders on three sides of the building before being reassigned to the exposure building to conduct primary searches.

Two residents suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital, while four occupants were displaced. No firefighters were injured. Several area departments provided mutual aid during the response, and the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
