NEWBURGH, NY - The City of Newburgh FD responded to a fire in the rear of 96 Overlook Place around 3:15 P.M. on August 1st. On arrival units found heavy fire engulfing the entire rear of the structure that had also spread to the attached building at 94 Overlook Place.

A second-alarm was immediately sounded, bringing in West Point with an Engine, Stewart Air National Guard with an Engine, Cornwall on Hudson with a Ladder, Castle Point with an Engine, Good Will with an Engine and a Rescue, Winona Lake with an Engine, and Orange Lake with an Engine. Rombout was requested to stand by at the Public Safety Building with a ladder. Mobile Life ALS, CNPD, Deputy Orange County Fire Coordinator 36-13, Fire Coordinator 36-1, 36-3 and 36-15 were also at the scene.

Firefighters used hand lines and ground ladders to access the building and extinguish the heavy fire. A third-alarm was sounded 90 minutes into operations, at which time fresh crews were brought in for overhaul and to check for hot spots. Four City of Newburgh Firefighters were transported to Montefiore/St.Luke's Hospital for evaluation.

Central Hudson was called in for a power cut, and the American Red Cross was notified to help several displaced occupants. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is thought to be unintentional at this time.
