VANCOUVER, BC - On July 28, 2005 the Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services battled a 4-alarm fire in a row of stores including apts above one of them. The fire occurred in the 1300 blk of Kingsway near Knight St in East Vancouver. Firefighters had to deal with a hot summers day on top of the fast spreading fire that took over 4 hours to control.

Rehab was a serious issue for the incident commander due to the heat and an off-duty call out of 20 firefighters was requested to aid in this effort. Two firefighters were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation, but were released shortly after. At the fire's peak, approximately 70 firefighters were on the scene. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
