SPARROWBUSH, NY – Sparrowbush Engine Company was assisted by regional mutual aid companies in extricating a seriously injured male subject whose vehicle left the roadway, hit parked vehicles, and came to rest at the edge of a rapidly flowing stream on Wednesday morning, July 29. 

The accident occurred on Peenpack Trail in Cahoonzie/Sparrowbush, Town of Deerpark at approximately 9:30 a.m.  The cause of the accident was not immediately available, but it was believed that the individual may have suffered a medical emergency that caused his car to leave the roadway.

A caller near the scene of the accident reported to 9-1-1 that the vehicle had left Peenpack Trail, veered into a parked trailer and car, went down a hill and into a stream, and that the driver appeared to trapped in his van.

Upon arrival on scene, emergency personnel reported that the vehicle was not actually in the water, but at the edge, and that the driver was unconscious and entrapped.  Due to the nature of the driver’s injuries, a Medivac was requested but unable to accept due to weather. A second Medivac was also unable to respond. 

Following extrication by firefighters, the driver was transported by ambulance to Garnet Medical Center for treatment of injuries, including trauma to the head. Further information, and an update on the driver’s condition, was not immediately available.
