Sayville Firefighters Respond to High-Pressure Gas Leak

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On July 3, construction equipment struck an underground high-pressure gas line on Montauk Highway, resulting in a reported natural gas leak that the Sayville Fire Department responded to.

While they waited for the utility company to arrive, firefighters set up a safety perimeter and used a hose line to help disperse the escaping gas. After locating the proper valves and securely isolating the broken gas main, utility workers managed to contain the situation without causing any injuries.

Ryan Quarte, the Chief of Department, oversaw the operation.
