On July 18, the Melville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire on Sarah Drive in East Farmingdale as part of a dual response assignment.
Firefighters saw a sizable scrap metal fire burning behind a business building when they arrived. While the department's Drone Unit offered aerial support to locate residual hot spots and aid incident commanders, engines 2-5-4 and 2-5-7 helped with fire control operations.
After almost three hours, Melville units resumed operations after the fire was contained thanks to the combined efforts of several agencies.
