Hewlett, N.Y. — July 12 — On a dual-response assignment, the Hewlett Fire Department, located at 25 Franklin Ave., helped the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department respond to a building fire that was reported on Hook Creek Boulevard. When crews discovered smoke inside a warehouse, Rescue 1 and Nassau Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 responded first, followed by Engine 304 and Chief Sheflin.

Using two water cans, firefighters swiftly discovered a tiny fire in an office area and put it out. After that, workers ventilated the structure, looked for fire extensions, and made sure everything was under control. Operations for mutual aid contributed to the safe end of the response.
