The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a house fire on Tuesday, July 21, at 12:46 PM. The fire was located on West Norwalk Road in a 2.5-story single-family house. The initial call reported smoke in the house and a possible fire. Upon arrival, a working fire was declared after active fire was discovered in the basement. The fire was extinguished by the first-alarm assignment. The fire was declared under control 55 minutes after firefighters arrived. The Norwalk Fire Department responded with a total of 27 firefighters to the one-alarm fire, consisting of three engines, two ladder companies, a rescue company, and command and support staff. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Prior to resources clearing the first fire, Norwalk Dispatch was alerted to a second house fire at 1:29 PM. The fire was located on Midrocks Drive in a 2.5-story single-family house. Due to the first fire, available Norwalk Fire Department resources were limited to two engines, command staff, and one New Canaan Fire Department engine. Upon arrival, Engine 4 found fire showing from the first floor and heavy smoke present throughout the structure. Engine 4 declared a working fire, which brought resources to the scene as they cleared the first fire. The fire was extinguished by the first-alarm assignment. The fire was declared under control 35 minutes after firefighters arrived. The Norwalk Fire Department responded with a total of 27 firefighters to the one-alarm fire, consisting of three engines, one ladder company, a rescue company, and command and support staff. The New Canaan Fire Department responded with one engine company and support staff. There were no reported injuries to civilians. One firefighter sustained a minor hand injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Norwalk Hospital EMS and the Norwalk Police Department provided on-scene support at both fires. The Rowayton Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident. The Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of both fires.
