Vacant Structure Fire Collapses, Crews Contain Blaze with Defensive Operations

Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Harding Avenue after multiple reports of heavy smoke and visible flames.


First-arriving crews encountered a vacant building fully involved in fire conditions. Shortly after arrival, the structure collapsed, prompting firefighters to transition to a defensive strategy.


Crews deployed master streams and brought the bulk of the fire under control, while additional units handled overhaul and extinguishment of remaining hot spots. Several companies were released to remain available for other emergencies as operations continued.


No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
