At 11:02 a.m. on July 13, the Birdsboro-Union Fire Department was called to a reported structure fire on North Walnut Street.

When Engine 7 arrived, they discovered a lot of smoke within the house's first story and escalated the situation to a working fire. Firefighters quickly identified an oven in self-cleaning mode as the source of the smoke. Crews verified the problem was limited to the appliance, ventilated the building, and looked for fire extension.
