High-Angle Rope Rescue Removes Injured Patient from Cliff

Guilder Centre, NY - The Guilderland Center Fire Department responded to Frenchs Hollow for an injured patient located on an upper cliff, operating alongside Guilderland Police Department and Guilderland EMS.


Crews determined a technical rope rescue was required. A rescuer accessed the patient, provided care, and assisted in repositioning to the bank while personnel established a rope system to safely package and remove the patient from the steep terrain.


Assistance was provided by Altamont Fire Department and Slingerlands Fire Department with rigging and removal operations, with additional support from the Albany County Sheriff's Office.


The incident highlighted strong interagency coordination and technical rescue capability.
