On July 7th at about 10:10, the Lehigh County 911 Center dispatched Slatington and nearby companies to 627 Main St. in the rear alley, for a lawnmower on fire in a garage. A report of heavy black smoke in the area was given out before arrival and a second alarm was requested. The fast moving fire totally destroyed the garage, damaged two outside cars and threatened the adjoining garage. Also damaged were two rear alley apartments of 627 and two apartments of 635 Main St. This amounted to smoke damage and some melting of the siding. EMS checked out several victims of smoke inhalation. Ten people were displaced by the blaze. On Main St., the nearby Chinese restaurant and Post Office were temporarily shut down. The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes. There were no reports of any injuries.
