Tamarac, FL – July 2, 2025 – Tamarac Fire Rescue is proud to announce that Fire Marshal Tommy Demopoulos has been named the inaugural 2025 Fire Marshal of the Year by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This prestigious award recognizes his exceptional leadership in fire code enforcement, driven by a commitment to education, community collaboration, and proactive risk reduction.
Marshal Demopoulos has been a pivotal force behind numerous fire prevention initiatives, not only in Tamarac but throughout Florida. His dedication and innovative approach have transformed fire safety practices, earning him this esteemed recognition. The NFPA Fire Marshal of the Year Award honors professionals who demonstrate outstanding leadership in achieving code compliance through education, community collaboration, and proactive risk-reduction efforts.
Chief Demopoulos has spearheaded a significant shift in Tamarac Fire Rescue's approach to fire prevention, moving from enforcement alone to a comprehensive strategy centered on community education and cooperative compliance. His impactful initiatives include a 10-year smoke alarm installation program in partnership with the American Red Cross, utilizing GIS mapping to ensure free alarm installations across the city. He also provides personalized outreach, assisting business owners with customized timelines and practical safety alternatives to navigate complex fire sprinkler requirements.
Beyond his local work, Chief Demopoulos is a respected voice in fire safety across the state, serving on multiple NFPA technical committees and as First Vice President of the Florida Fire Marshals & Inspectors Association. He also contributes to statewide leadership development through his work on the Community Risk Reduction Module for the Florida Fire Chiefs Association’s Emergency Services Leadership Institute.
