Firefighters Controlled Bridge Fire Near Reliance Avenue

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Mays Landing, N.J. — June 13 — A reported fire involving the bridge structure prompted the Mays Landing Fire Department to react to the trestle bridge off Reliance Avenue. Engine 18-33 set up a water supply to support operations, and Utility 18-34 deployed a handline to start fighting the fire. Before the fire extended farther into the bridge, firefighters managed to contain it.

In response, the marine unit of the Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company put out any last hot spots in the water beneath the building. The coordinated reaction helped crews finish suppression and overhaul activities safely and effectively, demonstrating the importance of collaboration, specialized equipment, and mutual aid during emergencies with difficult access.
