Minot Rural Fire Department Celebrates 50th Anniversary

MINOT, ND - The Minot Rural Fire Department is celebrating 50 years of serving the residents of Minot's rural community. An open house is planned on the 18th of July from 1 to 4pm at the headquarters station. Extrication demonstrations are planned as well as water flow and fire extinguishment demos. Children’s games are planned as well as fire truck rides.

The MRFD is also proud to announce that the new fire chief, Rex Weltikol has taken over the fire department effective July 12, 2004. His first day on the job was routine until the afternoon call for a ND State Highway Department gravel truck on fire. Due to being in the station as the only full time firefighter, as soon as another firefighter came into the station, they took Quick Response 219 to the scene. They stopped the fire to the engine compartment and some of the cab before Engine 214 arrived on scene.
