Crystal River, FL - The Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a large brush fire in the Potts Wildlife Management Area following multiple reports of heavy smoke and fire.

Upon arrival, command was established alongside the Florida Forest Service - Withlacoochee Forestry Center and the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, where crews identified two separate fires burning in a heavily wooded, remote area.

Firefighters worked jointly to assess conditions, coordinate resources, and protect surrounding land. Due to limited access, a marine unit was deployed to reach areas inaccessible by land. Crews successfully contained a marsh fire to isolated islands and prevented it from crossing a canal, ensuring no structures were threatened.

Aerial support from the Sheriff’s Office enhanced situational awareness and resource coordination. Once forestry resources assumed control of ongoing suppression efforts, fire rescue units were released from the scene.
