Porch Fire Extends to Attic in Norwich

At 12:52 pm on Tuesday, 7/12/2022 the Norwich Fire Department was dispatched to 100 Main Street for a rear porch on fire. Battalion 1 arrived at 12:54 with smoke showing from the rear of a 3.5 story ordinary constructed building. Squad A & Truck 1 positioned on Main Street while Engines 2 & 3 set up on Church Street. Engine 3 stretched a 300' inch and three quarter hose line down the alleyway and across the rear porch where the fire had extended into the soffit.
Engine 2 got the water supply for Engine 3 and then brought ladders to the rear. Squad A stretched a 250 foot inch and three quarter line from Engine 3 and went into the right side apartment. Crews hooked the ceiling and had fire running the attic above them. Truck 1 flew their aerial and performed vertical ventilation.
Taftville Tower 25, Yantic Engine 33 and East Great Plain Rescue 5 provided relief crews to assist with overhaul. The Mohegan Tribal FAST responded & American Ambulance transported two firefighters for heat exhaustion. Two cats, a rabbit and a guinea pig were removed from the residence. and the Norwich Fire Marshal's Office is investigating. Laurel Hill Engine 62 and Montville Ladder 15 covered headquarters.
