This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Holyoke, Mass. — June 14 — Following a report of distressed kayakers, Holyoke Fire Department firefighters arrived at Jones Ferry on the Connecticut River. Three kayakers who were unable to return to their launch point were found by crews working with the Chicopee Fire Department. All three were safely returned to Jones Ferry by responders, where Cataldo Ambulance staff assessed them before releasing them unharmed.

Each kayaker was wearing a life jacket, according to officials, which helped ensure the outcome was safe. The event made clear how crucial it is to have personal flotation equipment, organize mutual help, and be ready for water rescues in the event of a recreational emergency.
