Hamden, CT - The Hamden Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Hobson Avenue, where first-arriving crews encountered smoke showing from a basement window.

Engine 2 advanced a hose line to the basement and quickly located and extinguished a fire in a bedroom. During the operation, firefighters rescued a small dog from the affected area. The animal was treated on scene by ambulance personnel with oxygen and is expected to make a full recovery.

The residence was deemed temporarily uninhabitable, displacing eight occupants and four dogs. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family with lodging and support.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hamden Fire Marshal’s Office.
