Marine Crews Knock Down Boat Fire Off Little Gasparilla Island

Punta Garda, FL - Charlotte County Fire & EMS responded to a boat fire off Little Gasparilla Island, where crews observed a column of smoke from an older houseboat.
Marine 1 attacked the fire from the water and quickly extinguished it, while LGI-1 and Battalion 3 supported from land. No injuries were reported.
The fire is classified as accidental and is believed to have originated from a mechanical issue related to the vessel’s age. Fireworks found onboard were not a contributing factor.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is handling the abandoned vessel portion of the incident.
