PATTON, PA — June 22 — First-alarm mutual aid units from Patton Fire Company No. 1 responded to a reported house fire on Palmer Street and Sixth Avenue at around 12:04 p.m. Initial reports suggested substantial smoke and fire on the second floor with possible entrapment.
Assistant Chief Campbell arrived first, confirmed significant fire extending from the second level into the attic, and established command. Before additional crews arrived, Campbell and Firefighter Kendall Rogal rescued two dogs from the first level as smoke conditions intensified.
With a crew of six, Rescue Engine 62 arrived in five minutes. Firefighters completed a first search, established no individuals were trapped, and deployed two 1¾-inch handlines for fire attack. Tower 62 set up the water supply and acquired a hydrant. The fire was brought under control around 10 minutes after the arrival of the first fire units, followed by overhaul operations throughout the structure.
Mutual aid companies from Carrolltown Fire Engine Company, Hastings Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, and Ashville Volunteer Fire Company assisted with fire suppression and overhaul. Hastings Area Ambulance, Veterans Memorial Ambulance Service, and Cambria County Box 11 provided EMS standby and firefighter rehabilitation. Lou Who's Pizza and Pasta supplied food for responders, while community members assisted by calling 911, providing information to arriving crews, and donating cases of water to personnel operating at the scene.
