On July 1st, personnel of the Minerva Volunteer Fire Department and the department's Rescue Squad assisted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in controlling a brush fire.
According to officials, firemen and NYSDEC staff collaborated to contain and put out the fire, stopping it from spreading through difficult terrain. The coordinated response demonstrated the need of interagency collaboration, especially in situations involving brush fires when operations may be complicated by dry vegetation, shifting weather patterns, and challenging access.
