TROY, NY — On June 20th at 6:08 PM, the City of Troy Fire Department was dispatched to 761 River Street for a reported structure fire. Engine 4, Engine 1, Engine 2, Truck 1, Truck 2, Medic 3, the rescue squad, and the battalion chief responded to the scene.
The caller reported a fire in the wall, stating they could see smoke on the first floor and did not believe anyone was on the second floor. Engine 4 arrived on scene with no visible signs of fire from the outside of the home. As firefighters entered the building, the officer of Engine 4 notified dispatch that they had located fire in the wall and transmitted a Signal 30, indicating a working structure fire. Firefighters from the next-due engine connected to a nearby hydrant to establish a water supply.
Fire crews deployed a 1¾-inch handline through the side door of the structure. As additional firefighters arrived, they began pulling apart the wall to access the fire. Truck 2’s crew threw a ladder to the roof and began inspecting for any extension. The chief confirmed that all occupants of the house had been accounted for.
Firefighters later reported a smoke condition in the basement and began efforts to locate the seat of the fire. While working, crews opened up the kitchen wall—both inside and outside the structure—exposing burned beams and charred material. Firefighters on the second floor reported no fire extension, while crews on the first floor confirmed that the fire was under control.
Command placed the incident under control in under 15 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene to conduct overhaul operations, while fire investigators began examining the cause of the blaze. No public determination has been released at this time. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was notified to assist individuals displaced by the fire.
Firefighters returned to service approximately 30 minutes after the fire was brought under control and the scene was cleared.
