Mutual Aid Crews Stopped Fire From Reaching Home

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

East Pittsburgh, PA. — June 12 — Shortly after four in the morning, mutual assistance teams and firefighters from Wilkins Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 3, 109 Powell St., responded to a residence fire on Roland Road. While examining the house for an addition, crews swiftly put out the fire after discovering a deck and adjacent outside objects on fire. The fire did not spread inside the house and just slightly damaged the façade.

Investigators discovered that the fire began when charcoal that had been thrown out after grilling the night before rekindled inside a garbage container. There were no reported injuries. To help avoid such tragedies, fire officials advised locals to let charcoal cool completely before disposing of it.
