Trash Truck Fire Traced to Improperly Discarded Lithium-Ion Batteries

Nashua, NH - A city trash collection truck caught fire after improperly discarded lithium-ion batteries ignited during collection, according to fire officials.


The batteries were damaged or crushed inside the truck, sparking a fire that spread quickly. Lithium-ion batteries, commonly found in phones, laptops, power tools, and other rechargeable devices, should never be placed in household trash or recycling bins.


Residents are urged to dispose of rechargeable batteries at designated hazardous waste facilities, retail drop-off locations, or community collection events.


No injuries were reported, and the fire was safely extinguished.
