Bridgewater, N.J. — June 9 — While many fire departments battled a second-alarm structure fire in Somerset County, the Country Hills Volunteer Fire Company sent out Rescue 56 to offer standby coverage for Hillsborough Township. While frontline units were dedicated to the ongoing crisis, the assignment made sure people had access to emergency response capabilities.

A crucial component of the county's mutual aid system is standby coverage, which enables nearby departments to continue providing fire protection during protracted situations. Until local resources were freed, Country Hills firemen were prepared to handle any more calls. The project illustrated the importance of regional collaboration in preserving emergency services throughout Somerset County.
