On May 30, 12 firefighters from the Old Saybrook Fire Department went to a third-alarm fire in Groton as mutual aid.
A four-story multi-tenant structure was involved in the incident, according to officials, and a significant regional response was needed. For several hours, seven tower ladders with the assistance of at least ten engine companies worked to contain the fire. In order to make sure the building had been securely cleared, Old Saybrook firemen were assigned to interior operations, where they carried out secondary searches.
Aerial units from the New London Fire Department, Norwich Fire Department, and the Naval Submarine Base New London Fire Department collaborated with the department's tower ladder.
