The Stonington Volunteer Fire Department opened its doors to the public for its first annual open house on Saturday, June 15th. This was an event designed to promote fire safety awareness and strengthen the bond between firefighters and the community.

Families, community members and area visitors flocked to the fire station on Atlantic Avenue, eager to explore the world of firefighting. The event featured a variety of activities, demonstrations, and educational opportunities that captivated attendees of all ages. One of the highlights was a donning and doffing competition between Assitant Fire Chief, Carl Shahan and Captain, Seth Reece. In addition to the demonstrations, the fire department set up several interactive stations. Attendees could try on firefighter gear and explore the inside of fire trucks.

As the day came to a close, the fire department had welcomed over 50 visitors. The success of the open house underscored the community's support for their local firefighters and the vital services they provide. Looking ahead, the fire department plans to continue its outreach efforts, including school visits and community workshops. Education and preparedness are key and we're committed to making sure our community is informed and ready to handle emergencies.
