Brooklyn, NY – New York’s Public Safety agencies from the NYPD, FDNY, OEM and Sanitation were on hand to support Coney Island’s 41st Annual Mermaid Parade on Saturday, June 22nd. Despite the hot and humid weather, hundreds of marchers turned out cheered by several thousand who lined Surf Avenue. The parade, founded in 1983 as a way to pay homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras, which lasted from 1903 to 1954.
