Multi-Agency Water Rescue Response at Penfield Beach; One Rescued, One Missing
Fairfield, CT - Fairfield Police Department and Fairfield Fire Department responded to Penfield Beach for a report of two fishermen in distress after being cut off by a rapidly rising tide on the reef.
A witness attempted rescue and was able to assist one individual before both were swept into deeper water. Multiple marine units, drone teams, and regional dive teams responded, including support from neighboring agencies and the U.S. Coast Guard.
One fisherman was rescued by police marine units and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Despite extensive search efforts, a second fisherman remains missing. Search operations have transitioned to recovery and will continue with multi-agency support.
