At approximately 8:08 p.m. on May 29th, members of the Avenel Fire Department, along with firefighters from Woodbridge and Port Reading, responded to Ella Avenue for a reported structure fire.
While units were en route, the Woodbridge Police Department reported smoke showing from the first floor of the residence. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story single-family home with smoke visible from first-floor windows, prompting the declaration of a working fire and a first-alarm assignment.
The fire was successfully contained to the first story by the first-arriving crew's aggressive interior fire assault and deployment of a 1¾-inch attack line. Crews concurrently carried out primary and secondary searches, confirming that there were no persons inside, and a second hose line was put into operation.
The location was turned over to fire investigators after a thorough cleanup. The Middlesex County Fire Prevention Bureau is still looking into the fire. There were no reported injuries.
