Ridge, NY - On the morning of May 19th, the Brookhaven Town Volunteer Firefighters Museum hosted its Annual Memorial Service for those firefighters and ladies auxiliary members who perished in the previous year prior.
The event started with the traditional march around the grounds. Once all members of the departments in attendance and dignitaries were in place, President of the Museum Pat Perry and Vice President John Masem gave their remarks. An opening prayer was also given by Chaplin James Vaz of the Brookhaven Fire Department. Names were read by members of the Executive Board and Secretary Dan Brooks tolled the bell for each name of a departed member as its customary in the fire service. Taps was also played, and the flag lowered to half mass.
The Dignitaries in attendance included Suffolk Fire Rescue Commissioner Patrick Beckley, Deputy Commissioner Rudy Sunderman, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Legislator Nick Caracappa, and FASNY VP Gene Perry just to name a few. After the service was over, attendees were invited to explore the museum and see its collections as well as stay for light refreshments. The Brookhaven Town Fire Museum and the members of the fire departments in the Brookhaven Township will never forget those who have perished.
