Henrico County Structure Fire

Henrico County, Virginia. June 8, 2022, at 10:24 AM, Henrico Fire units were called to the 5800 block of Staples Mill Road for a residential structure fire. First arriving units reported smoke and flames visible. There were reports of multiple people and animals trapped, however, all people were out of the structure upon arrival. A citizen passing by entered the structure and assisted in removing one of the occupants prior to the arrival of fire personnel. Fire crews encountered heavy fire but were able to bring the fire under control. Fire crews rescued multiple animals from the structure. Henrico Police assisted Fire with controlling traffic on Staples Mill Road and care for the animals.

There was one civilian injury, and they were transported to the hospital by Henrico Fire. The other occupants refused care but drove themselves to the hospital for evaluation. No firefighter injuries have been reported.

Six dogs were removed from the structure: 1 deceased and 3 others were transported to a vet by Animal Protection Officer. One bird was injured. Two reptiles were deceased.

Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants.

Henrico Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
