On Thursday, June 11th, 2026 at 1455 hours the River Road Fire Company was dispatched to 309 Bound Brook ave for a reported structure fire. After receiving multiple phone calls, and the homeowner reporting the house was on fire the first due chief transmitted a first alarm box. As patrol units arrived they notified the fire department the house was confirmed to be on fire. Upon the arrival of a chief he had a working fire with the rear and side of the house well off, and requested a second alarm along with the township general. Upon further investigation they had heavy fire throughout and through the roof of the home. Shortly after units arrived and made an interior attack conditions rapidly deteriorated which prompted crews to evacuate the structure. Crews also found multiple propane tanks on fire. Shortly after crews transitioned to an exterior attack the bravo side of the house collapsed and all members evacuated the roof after making cuts, this was followed by a major roof collapse on the charlie / delta side roof. In total there were three water supplies, five handlines, one tower ladder, and one deckgun in operation until crews were able to go back inside to work. Companies operated in the blistering humidity and heat for nearly 3 hours before all of the fire was extinguished. Units on the scene included, River Road Engine 652, Ladder 656, Rescue 655, New Market Engine 2, Truck 6, Holmes Marshall Squad 675, Engine 671, Possumtown Engine 631, Arbor Hose Engine 641, North Stelton Ladder 627, East Franklin Squad 27, South Plainfield Engine 5, Bound Brook Squad 23, Metuchen Engine 1, Middlesex County HazMat HM-5, HM-7, and multiple cover companies throughout the township.
