On Monday, June 9th, Mount Olive's Budd Lake Fire Department and Flanders Fire Department were dispatched to the Residence Inn by Marriot for the report of a fire. While enroute, Asst. Chief Sheard made the decision to upgrade to a 2nd alarm, after reports of multiple alarms sounding and sprinkler activations. On arrival, heavy smoke was visible from division 3 on the delta side of the building. Crews from Budd Lake and Netcong made an aggressive interior attack, extinguishing fire found in one of the suites. Mount Olive Police, Fire Marshall's and several mutual aid fire departments assisted with searching and evacuating the four story hotel, as well as shutting off utilities. After several hours of ventilation, crews were able to turn the incident over to hotel management.
