PATERSON, NJ - Shortly before 4:00 PM on June 6th Paterson dispatched an alarm for a fire at 80 Coral St.  A three story 20 X 50 frame multiple dwelling had fire on the rear porch extending to the top floor. Two hand lines were quickly stretched. The heat of the day prompted a second alarm for additional manpower to be transmitted. Companies appeared to be making progress, but the smoke condition from the third floor and cockloft intensified. About 4:20 as conditions continued to deteriorate, all members were withdrawn.

Operations went defensive with one tower ladder, one ladder pipe, and two 2.5” lines in operation. Flames consumed most of the third floor and roof of the structure before being brought under control. Crews were rotated out for rehab. No serious injuries were reported and the cause is being investigated.
