In the afternoon hours of Monday June 8th 2026 the Wading River Fire Department was dispatched to a reported technical rescue on Hulse Landing Road. First responding units were advised that the victim was able to self rescue; but a dog was still stuck approximately 20-30 feet down a bluff. Upon the arrival of first unit after a survey of the scene the Town of Brookhaven Technical Rescue Matrix was activated. Brookhaven National Lab Technical Rescue Technicians established a rope system at the top of the bluff and carefully lowered a technician to the stranded dog. The dog was safely secured and was brought up the bluff and reunited with the owner. The operation was completed successfully without injury to the dog, rescuers, or bystanders. Units operated under the command of 6-3-30.
