INLET BEACH, Fla. --- South Walton Fire District firefighters responded to a residential structure fire in Inlet Beach Tuesday morning, June 10th.
A 911 caller first reported the incident when they were walking by the residence on Kirkwood Place around 6:45 a.m. and noticed the outside corner of the home turning brown, indicating a potential fire happening within the wall.
Station 1 firefighters arrived on-scene and forced entry into the home to find smoke throughout the structure. They located active fire within one of the corners of the home and then removed pieces of drywall and ceiling to extinguish it.
Crews continued overhauling and ventilating the structure until the smoke was cleared from the home and signs of fire were mitigated.
No injuries were reported and no occupants were in the structure at the time the fire started.
SWFD investigated the cause of the fire and determined a lightning strike from storms in the area could not be ruled out as the source. The fire’s damage was primarily limited to the corner of the home where crews first opened the walls.
The District thanks all partner agencies for their assistance throughout the duration of the call and extends its support to the impacted property owners.
