On May 31, just after 12:30 a.m., firefighters from Ledyard and Gales Ferry arrived at 120 Gallup Hill Road in response to a reported apartment fire. A working fire dispatch was initiated after an ambulance crew returning from the hospital reported smoke visible from the structure as units were en approach.

Command requested a second alarm after arriving crews discovered fire in a top-floor apartment that had spread into the attic. To contain the situation, firefighters carried out ventilation, search, and suppression operations.

There were no reported injuries. For several hours, Gales Ferry units were on the scene. The cause is still being looked into.
