SADDLE BROOK, NJ - Firefighters battled an excavator fire while a building in Saddle Brook was being demolished on June 7th. A general alarm was dispatched to the old Hi Way Block and Patio building on 5th Street on a reported working fire at 3:07 p.m. Arriving chiefs had an excavator fully involved on a pile of rubble that used to be a building. Long hand line stretches were made to reach the fire, and a foam line was used due to fuel burning and fluids. The fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes. The Bergen County Hazardous Materials unit was special called to the scene. Mutual aid from Garfield, Fair Lawn and Rochelle Park covered the town. No injuries were reported.
